Attack Squirrels Intimidating Lower East Side Community (June, 2006)

Rumanian Shul Collapse, January, 2006
I got a phone call that the roof of the Rumanian shul, on Rivington and Essex, had collapsed. I rushed out with my wife and child (who stayed with the car) and mingled with the crowd. The Times’ photographer later managed to get amazing shots from above the structure. I think mine came out gloomy.

Angel & Sue at Pianos, July 2004
We went to hear Southern belle duo Angel Dean (Tennessee) and Sue Garner (Georgia) at Pianos. They're pushing their new CD, Pot Liquor, a collection of pop-folk tunes which get gutsy every once in a while, but is mostly very pleasant to listen to. If you like the haunting quality of harmonizing female voices, you're in for a treat. Both singers project a remarkable sense of comfort on stage, a quality we'd like to see them taking along to bigger halls. Pot Liquor blends the duo's Southern charm and New York angst with the Gothic imagery of rural New England. The lyrics touch on favorite subjects like Old Graveyard in the Woods, Quarry Pond, Sand Bar, and Barn.
