Rumanian Shul Collapse, January, 2006
I got a phone call that the roof of the Rumanian shul, on Rivington and Essex, had collapsed. I rushed out with my wife and child (who stayed with the car) and mingled with the crowd. The Times’ photographer later managed to get amazing shots from above the structure. I think mine came out gloomy.

We went to hear Southern belle duo Angel Dean (Tennessee) and Sue Garner (Georgia) at Pianos. They're pushing their new CD, Pot Liquor, a collection of pop-folk tunes which get gutsy every once in a while, but is mostly very pleasant to listen to. If you like the haunting quality of harmonizing female voices, you're in for a treat. Both singers project a remarkable sense of comfort on stage, a quality we'd like to see them taking along to bigger halls. Pot Liquor blends the duo's Southern charm and New York angst with the Gothic imagery of rural New England.
