"It's dirtier than most train lines, and our local stop is particularly bad," wrote Elizabeth A. MacAvery. This was published at about the same time the Delancey Street station was receiving lovely, colorful murals. "If you ask me, the kind of arts project our East Broadway station needs involves spreading a nice fresh coat of paint on the grungy walls. Another project could be wiping off the odorous puddles on the bare cement floors. Perhaps some local aspiring artists would purchase a few surplus heavy brushes and brooms and call up the DCA about a commission. Just a thought..." Not a whole lot has changed in almost four years...

Helen Zelon wrote about the transformation of the Clinton Street Fine Fare and interviewed Manager David Vargas: "Responding to the needs of an evolving community is Vargas' first priority. He shows off vast banks of fancy fresh foods - swaths of leafy greens on ice, Portobellos stacked like Frisbees, organic produce from faraway farms - along with careful pyramids of apples and oranges, potatoes and onions, mango and jicama."
