"It's dirtier than most train lines, and our local stop is particularly bad," wrote Elizabeth A. MacAvery. This was published at about the same time the Delancey Street station was receiving lovely, colorful murals. "If you ask me, the kind of arts project our East Broadway station needs involves spreading a nice fresh coat of paint on the grungy walls. Another project could be wiping off the odorous puddles on the bare cement floors. Perhaps some local aspiring artists would purchase a few surplus heavy brushes and brooms and call up the DCA about a commission. Just a thought..." Not a whole lot has changed in almost four years...
