On Saturday, September 15 at 8PM, Congressional staffer turned piano-pop rocker, Danny Ross, backed by an eight piece band and horn section, will be hosting a Benefit Concert for the non-profit organization 9/11 Environmental Action at The Bowery Poetry Club. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the group. His local representative, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), who happens to also be his boss, will be attending and saying a few words.

Founded in April 2002, 9/11 Environmental Action consists of residents, parents and health advocates fighting for a comprehensive cleanup of downtown Manhattan along with medical monitoring and health care for everyone harmed by World Trade Center contaminants.

“The band and I are looking forward to a fun night of rock n’ roll to support downtown residents,” said Ross. “I’m especially pleased that my boss, Congressman Nadler, who has been extremely active in 9/11 health and environmental issues for the last six years, will be personally involved with the concert. Now if we can only get him dancing.”

This isn’t the first time Ross has used his music to support 9/11 victims, having organized a benefit concert raising $2,000 for The Dennis Leary Firefighters Foundation in November 2001. A downtown resident himself, Ross, 23, describes his music as “piano-pop rocked out. Think Ben Folds meets rock n roll.” He released his debut album, Introducing Danny Ross!, in June 2007, and has been working for Congressman Nadler as his New York Scheduler and Operations Coordinator for more than a year.

Nadler has been a leading voice in 9/11 health and environmental concerns over the last six years, recently calling former EPA Administrator Christie Todd Whitman into his Judiciary Subcommittee for sworn testimony, and helping to appropriate $50 million for a WTC monitoring and treatment program.
